The Side of the House

The Side of the House is a blog by Robert Kloska. He has no delusion that his blog is any good. He also realizes that the Side of the House violates lots of best practices in blogging. But he's not trying to be a professional blogger. Rather, he's just sharing his sincere thoughts. Respectful comments are welcome. This blog is simply an extension of what actually occurs on the side of the Kloska house in South Bend, Indiana. You are most welcome here! House rules: 1) You must be a person of goodwill; and 2) You must try be friendly and polite to everyone. In person, Robert is usually known as "BK", "Bobby", or "Bob." Nobody really calls him Robert except on formal occasions. ;)

Robert Kloska (aka BK, Bobby, Bob, Bobum)

Catholic Christian. Husband. Father. Son. Sibling. Servant. Seeker. Survivor. Domer. Friend.

I’m one of 13 children whose parents provided 200 years of Catholic education. 11 of us attended Notre Dame or Saint Mary’s College, one went to Marquette.

Graduating in 1990, I entered the Congregation of Holy Cross seminary. When I left two years later, the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles left me stranded in a bus station in downtown Phoenix. I remained in the Valley for 4 years. It was there that I met my wife.

After teaching theology for 3 years at a Jesuit high school, a stop at Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio) equipped me with a masters degree in philosophy.

I then spent 17 rewarding years at Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, IN as a philosophy professor, director of campus ministry and vice president. Today I work for the nation’s largest Catholic credit union, Notre Dame FCU. Connect with me on Linkedin.

Margy and I have now been married for over 20 years and blessed with five very beloved children. I’ve had cancer three times and have been chronically ill since 2003.

I consider it my vocation to extend warm hospitality to anyone seeking friendship and conversation either in person or electronically.

If you wish to hear a summary of my philosophy of life in 93 seconds, Fr. John Riccardo explains my position perfectly.

Welcome!

The side of whose house? Robert Kloska is my name. My wife and I have made the side of our house a place of hospitality for all of our visitors. Here we share our thoughts and talk with civility and kindness about the things that matter most.
